Post PiBo

Hello to anyone who happens to check in after the big event NaPiBoWriWee 2010 has ended! I hope you enjoyed the challenge and are still on cloud nine. Congratulations to the winners of Paula's random prize draw! No, I'm not bitter that I missed out. I'll just have to get my credit card out and buy my own NaPiBoWriWee 2010 memorabilia, right? :)

I was a wee bit disappointed that I had so much on my plate by day seven of the event that I couldn't quite reach my goal of seven stories in seven days. Instead, I achieved a formidable 5.5 stories. Not bad for a beginner! Also, I was quite surprised at the great amount of pride I felt about the work I had written. I have fond memories of the making of these stories and thank my friends and husband for reading my drafts and providing instant feedback as I wrote from my secret location!

I was also surprised to find a new story idea pop into my head as I closed the cupboard doors of the vanity this evening. It had been a stressful day and evening, with two kiddies all snotty and miserable and no husband around to lend a hand (he's still not back!) I had just finished brushing my teeth and declared to myself that I was in need of some 'me time'. Within seconds an idea for a picture book had unfolded in my mind. In under a minute I was searching for the laptop to get started on this new project. At this stage I am 80% finished the first draft. How good is that!? A nice little bonus at the end of a day that sucked everything out of me :)

I had almost forgotten that you can write anytime, anywhere. You don't have to be signed up to a challenge, it doesn't have to be read by anyone else and it doesn't even have to make sense. It has to be the best hobby ever, don't you think?

Off I go to sleeeep. Good lord, I need it.

Night, night!

Those stories that just "pop" are always a great gift. I think the more we write, the more they happen.

Like physical exercise tightens up our flabby bods, writing exercises tighten up our flabby imaginations. Suddenly there are stories everywhere, just waiting to be had.

Congrats on a productive week. Good luck and keep writing!

Congratulations on the 5.5 new stories! And even better to hear about the new spontaneous story. Sympathies for the snotty kiddies (been there, return there regularly). Keep writing! after some sleep, that is.

I love it when a story jumps up and demands to be written. It doesn't happen often enough! I think Jim is correct though. The more we write the more often it happens.

I hope the kids are feeling better and you are finding time to write.
